Festival under the theme of 'Media World Everyone Joins' for both the disabled and non-disabled
The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Chairman Kim Hong-il) and Community Media Foundation (CEO Jo Han-kyu) held the 2024 Media Festival for the Disabled for three days from Wednesday, June 12 to Friday, June 14, at Busan Community Media Foundation.
This year marks the 18th anniversary of the Media Festival for the Disabled, an event the disabled and non-disabled enjoy together. The theme of this year's festival was 'Media World Everyone Joins,' and it had various programs under the theme.
The three-day event included the Rose Theater, which played 14 barrier-free* movies, including Monster and Marona's Fantastic Tale; Rose Class, a seminar themed around comprehensive media education for both the disabled and non-disabled, as well as barrier-free education; and Rose Garden, which exhibited the winning products of a contest aimed at improving awareness of disabilities, along with media art products created by artists with developmental disabilities.
*Barrier-free is a movement or policy that removes physical or psychological obstacles, ensuring that vulnerable individuals do not face day-to-day inconveniences.
The event also played barrier-free content provided by OTT platforms, such as Netflix, in a media environment without borders between TV, monitor, and screen and exhibited special broadcasting programs about people with disabilities produced by broadcasters.
Chairman Kim Hong-il said, "The Media Festival for the Disabled is a venue for everyone to meet and communicate with the world through media," adding, "The KCC has proactively supported media use of the disabled, including through providing audiovisual devices and expanding closed caption and screen reading services. We will also continue to contribute to bridging the gap in broadcasting and communications service use despite its fast advancement and creating a media environment without borders for everyone."
