KCC TO EASE THE PROGRAMMING BURDEN OF TOTAL EXTERNALIZATION PRODUCTS FOR LOCAL BROADCASTERS
Temporary relaxation of mandatory programming ratio of fully outsourced production for local broadcasters for two years
The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Chairman Kim Hong-il) held the 25th plenary session of the KCC on Wednesday, May 22 to push for a revision of the "Public Notice on the Programming of Broadcast Content," which temporarily eases the ratio of mandatory programming of fully outsourced broadcasting programs for local broadcasters for two years.
The main content of the revision is to ease the mandatory programming ratio of broadcast content genuinely produced by external producers, which was applied to local private broadcasters, from the current 3.2% to 2.6%, and to ease the mandatory programming ratio that was applied to Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation's local affiliates (local MBC), from the current 20% to 14%, and the regulations will be applied temporarily for two years.
The revision of the public notice is part of a temporary deferral of regulations* promoted to boost the vitality of the livelihood economy and aims to lower the burden of outsourcing production costs for local broadcasters and promote their own production to revitalize local broadcasting.
* Deferral of regulations (easing, suspension, special cases, etc.) for a certain period of time within the scope of maintaining the basis of existing policies
The amendment will be implemented as early as July 2024 through a decision by the KCC after administrative announcement and collecting opinions from stakeholders.
