- Expand distribution from low-income classes to all visually and hearing impaired viewers ? - Coordinate with local governments to begin accepting applications online and on site starting May 2 - The Korea Communications Commission (Chairman Han Sang-hyuk) has decided to distribute 15,000 custom TVs to assist visually and hearing impaired audiences enjoy broadcasting. The Commission announced viewers can apply for the assistive technology TVs starting Monday, May 2. The distribution of TVs for visually and hearing impaired viewers began in 2000 with closed captioning TV sets and video descrption TV sets. Since then functional improvements have been consistently made, and in 2013 an integrated receiver in the form of a TV set was developed. As of 2021, 224,498 TV sets have been distributed free of charge. ※ Registration of visually and hearing impaired people (Ministry of Health and Welfare, 2021): 663,369 people |
