On the 23rd, National Information Society Agency (president Seang Tae Kim, www.nia.or.kr) released which summarizes the result of joint-research on the theme ’ICT and the environment’ conducted together with Working Party on Information Economy (WPIE) of Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Information, Computer and Communications Policy (ICCP). This report consists of systematic analysis and descrption of our society’s research trend and issues regarding Green IT, which has been under the spotlight lately. Hence, the report is expected to act as a good resource for the current active researches on plans for IT-based green development. The main points discussed are * policy and initiative trend of key nations and private industry associations regarding ICT and the environment * development and research trend of international index regarding ICT and the environment * plans on reducing the effects of ICT products on the environment * sensor network research direction for solving environmental problems. President Seang Tae Kim of NIA commented that "advanced nations are already taking measures against climatic changes with active use of IT and they are rushing ahead to achieve the green development" and that "our strong-IT nation must also drive forward towards IT-utilizing green development with the cooperation of national organizations." The result of this joint-research will be introduced at OECD international conference on ICT, the environment and climatic changes and at ’United Nation’s Conference on Climate Change’ to be held in Denmark on May and December.
