The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Chairman Kim Hong-il) announced that the Standard Production Guideline for Protecting the Rights of Children and Adolescents in Broadcast Appearances will be amended on February 14 and will be implemented from March 14.
The KCC has protected the rights of children and adolescent performers on broadcast production sites by crafting the guideline in December 2020.
After the enactment of the guideline, the commission pushed forward with its amendment to improve the protection for the performers and increase its use on production sites. The amendment went through meetings and opinion collection with broadcasters, related associations, academia, and institutions since last November.
The amendment includes assigning a department (person in charge) for protecting children and adolescents' rights, regular guideline training for broadcasters or producers whose broadcast programs cast children or adolescents, and opinion collection from broadcast staff and young performers when amending the guideline.
Chairman Kim said, “I hope the amendment of the guideline will provide a safer and more friendly environment for minor performers and support them to lease out their potential,” encouraging the cooperation and efforts of broadcast producers and officials.
