A total of 16 creative pieces produced by viewers won awards
The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Acting Chairman Lee Sang-in) held the 2023 Community Media Awards ceremony at 14:00 on Tuesday, December 5, at the Gyeonggi Community Media Foundation in Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi Province.
This event, which started in 2015 and marks its ninth anniversary this year, is a place to discover and encourage creative works produced by viewers and honor the contributions of people who contribute to promoting viewers' participation in broadcasting.
From July to September, a total of 316 works were received through a public contest, and among them, one grand prize (Prime Minister's Award), five top prizes (KCC Chairman's Award), and 10 excellence and participation prizes (Korean Broadcasters Association Chairman's Award) were selected and awarded through preliminary, finals, and public participation screening.
"Destiny (Kim Na-young, Ko Soo-ho)" won this year's grand prize. It recorded human life and death and introduced public funeral volunteer activities for those who died without family, and it was praised for its excellent creativity and planning.
Four films won the top prizes: "Wan-suk's External Hard Drive" (Park Yul-rye and three others), "Goodbye, Makjang" (Lee Jun-cheol and two others), "Hope will come someday" (Lee Yoo-min and three others), "Eco-friendly Conflict" (Park Chun-sik and two others). The special prize went to Community Radio Seo-gu FM, a group that contributed to the recovery of the village community.
"In an era when the media usage environment is changing, viewers are actively participating as producers," Cho Sung-eun, secretary-general of the KCC, said in an opening speech. "We will provide opportunities for media participation and communication to all citizens by expanding facilities for media participation and creation and customized education support to promote viewers' rights."
The winning works of the 2023 Community Media Awards and detailed information are available on the Community Media Fund website at www.kcmf.or.kr.
