The scale of the Korean wireless communications service market has been showing an annual average growth of 6.0% (2002-2007), and has a value of approximately KRW 20 trillion as of 2007. Mobile phone services comprise the absolute majority of this market at 98.8%. On the other hand, while the WLL (Wireless Local Loop) and satellite communications service are not able to escape a downward trend, only the TRS (Trunked Radio System) is achieving an annual average growth of 17.4%. The TRS market is not big in terms of market scale, but it is expanding its scale through new market opportunities such as the call taxi. Even though voice calling services comprised 84.5% of the sales of mobile phone services, at KRW 15.7 trillion, its annual average growth rate was slow, at 4.6%. In contrast, data services have been found to continue substantial growth at an annual average growth rate of 18.6%. The number of mobile phone service subscribers in Korea was 43.5 million as of 2007. This works out to an annual average growth rate of 7.7% (2002-2007) and shows a gradual decrease in the rate of growth. Observation of the occupation of subscribers by each company shows that SK Telecom controls 51% of all subscribers, which is 22.9 million subscribers, as of September 2008. KTF and LGT control 14.3 million and 8.1 million subscribers, respectively. The number of mobile phone service subscribers in Korea was 43.5 million as of 2007.
