KCC participates in MWC 2025 and meetings with key institution leaders

Korea and Spain discuss ways to strengthen broadcasting and communications cooperation.

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Chairperson Lee Jinsook) announced that it will expand broadcasting and communications cooperation between Korea and Spain, starting with its participation in the Mobile World Congress (MWC) held in Barcelona, Spain, on the 3rd.

KCC Vice Chairperson Kim Tae-kyu attended MWC, the world’s largest mobile communications exhibition, and visited the booths of major domestic and overseas companies, including Samsung Electronics, SK Telecom (SKT), LG Uplus (LGU+), and Ericsson, a Swedish telecommunications equipment manufacturer.

Vice Chairperson Kim explored the latest mobile communications technology, such as AI, during his visit to the booths of major domestic and overseas companies and encouraged the officials of the companies at the event.

The exhibition, hosted by the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA), has gathered more than 2,700 businesses worldwide and features various events, such as business cooperation, investment promotion, and new technology showcases.

On the 4th, Vice Chairperson Kim plans to meet GSMA Director General Mats Granryd and incoming Director General Vivek Badrinath to discuss the future of communications technology related to AI transformation. He will also look around the KT and Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) booths.

From the 5th to the 6th, he will travel to Madrid to expand the broadcasting and communications cooperation between Korea and Spain by meeting Cani Fernandez Vicien, President of the Spanish National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC), and executives from Spain’s national broadcaster, Radio-televisi?n Espa?ola (RTVE).

With President Cani Fernandez Vicien, Vice Chairperson Kim will discuss the policy enforcement trends of the Digital Service Act and the Digital Markets Act of the European Union and introduce the Online Service User Protection Act (tentative name) of the KCC.

Additionally, he will visit RTVE headquarters to exchange opinions on “terrestrial broadcasting’s growth strategy in response to the changes in the online streaming service (OTT) landscape” and discuss broadcasting and communications cooperation between Korea and Spain.

Vice Chairperson Kim, on an official business trip, stated, “The KCC aims to explore the latest technological trends and strengthen policy cooperation with governments, including Spain’s, by participating in the world’s largest mobile communications exhibition.”
