Title STATE COUNCIL PROVIDES RESOLUTION ON ENFORCEMENT DECREE OF THE TELECOMMUNICATIONS BUSINESS ACT, PROHIBITING FORCING IN-APP PAYMENTS

The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Chairman Han Sang-hyuk) announced that the 11th State Council held on March 8 passed resolutions on amendments to the “Enforcement Decree of the Telecommunications Business Act” which prohbit app market business operators from forcing specific payment methods.

Thie amendments to the Enforcement Decree are follow-up measures to the amendment of the Telecommunications Business Act on September 14, 2021, a move which, for the first time in the world, clearly regulated the obligations of app market operators. The amendments stipulated the types, standards, and standards for the imposition of penalty surchages.
