Victorious Representatives from 17 Elementary Schools Attend
A 'Digital Ethics Empathy Fireside Chat' Takes Place
The Korea Communications Commission (KCC, Chairman Lee Dong-kwan) and the National Information Society Agency (NIA, President Hwang Jong-sung) held the final round of 'Challenge! Digital Ethics Golden Bell' on Saturday, November 11, at a multipurpose hall of Seoul City Hall.
The event was held to wrap up the 'Digital Ethics Golden Bell' preliminary rounds held at 17 elementary schools nationwide from May to October. Three representative students with high scores from each school participated to compete for the winner of digital ethics.
1,915 students from the 3rd to 6th grades of elementary school participated in the preliminary round of 'Digital Ethics Golden Bell' held by the region, and 48 representatives of students with excellent performances by school competed in the final round, and more than 100 parents and teachers attended to cheer for them.
Prior to the final round, the 'Digital Ethics Empathy Fireside Chat' was held with a creator DDotty (Na Hee-sun), who is working as a digital ethics PR ambassador of the KCC and a creator team named Treasure Island. The chat served as a venue to share the concerns about digital ethics that elementary school students are experiencing in real life and the experiences of digital ethics practice efforts.
Subsequently, when the final round quiz competition began, the students approached the quiz with a genuine commitment, showcasing their skills, and as a result of the fierce competition, Park Ji-hoon, a fifth grader at Woonchun Elementary School, remained one of the last to win the grand prize of 'Digital Ethics Golden Bell.'
The KCC Chairman's Award went to the winner, while excellence prizes, the NIA President's Awards, were given to finalists: Song Young-jin, a fifth grader at Incheon Cheongna Elementary School, and Jang Se-ah, a fifth grader at Woonchun Elementary School.
The winner, Park Ji-hoon, said, "I didn't know that I would be able to solve all the questions and win this competition. I'm so glad, and I'll continue to protect digital ethics as the winner."
The 'Digital Ethics Golden Bell', held for the first time this year, combined education tailored to elementary school students with experiential learning through quizzes. It received enthusiastic responses from many elementary schools nationwide. The KCC will continue organizing 'Challenge! Digital Ethics Golden Bell' to allow more schools to participate.
Chairman Lee said, "The students who participated in this event are the digital generation born and raised in the digital age. Therefore, education to help them cope with digital dysfunction wisely and use digital technologies more productively is more important." He added, "In the future, the KCC will proactively promote related policies and projects working as a guide for youth to practice digital ethics properly."
