The internet usage charges for students in elementary and secondary schools were lowered this year. The National Information Society Agency (Chairman Sungtae KIM, www.nia.or.kr) announced that they will lower the price for internet use, a minimum of 5% to a maximum of 25%, in elementary and secondary schools starting this year.
Accordingly, due to the change in charges for internet usage, all public information communication service prices will be lowered 5% and for 15Mbps~100Mbps demands the most use, will be lowered between 15~25%.
An additional 5% reduction is planned for next year. The details on this price reduction are as follows: 5% in 10Mbps, that is 26,300KW reduced from 524,300KW to 498,000KW, 21% reduction in 20Mbps, 211,000KW reduced from 1,009,800KW to 798,800KW.
The reasons for reducing by the different ratios in charges are to encourage the internet speed for those schools with lower speeds which are lower than 10Mbps, by reducing the percentage of higher speeds.
