Title	KCC Chairman Holds First Meeting with South Korea's Telecom Giants

Chairman Lee Dong-kwan of the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) had a meeting with three major telecom companies in Korea to discuss main issues in the broadcasting and communications market and hear from the industry leaders on Friday, September 15, at the Government Complex Gwacheon. The meeting was the first meeting with business operators since Chairman Lee’s inauguration and presided to highlight the importance of the role of telecom companies in improving citizens’ convenience and broadcasting and communications ecosystem. The meeting broadly engages in various policies of the KCC, including household communications fee reduction, mobile device distribution improvement, safe digital environment, user inconvenience resolution, unfair practices regulation, and users’ interests enhancement. Chairman Lee emphasized the importance of equitable access to communication services, which are essential and serve as public goods. He urged the communications industry to explore strategies for affordable plans and to combat the menace of illegal spam messages and voice phishing, which pose a threat to citizens' well-being. The chairman complimented the efforts of the three companies to develop the sunrise industries, such as AI, big data, and metaverse in the digital transition era going beyond traditional broadcasting and communications services. He requested the companies share burdens with citizens and other members of the society and work together to resolve the daily inconveniences of users. Chairman Lee will have a meeting also with the platform industry and others to make policy-level cooperation for user protection and fair competition in the broadcasting, communications, and Internet sectors.
