The Foundation for Building a Better Society: Hosting the 2023 Korea Public Service Advertising Contest The Grand Prize was awarded to the entry titled "Critically Endangered: the Republic of Korea," addressing the issue of low birth rates Running a special exhibition featuring award-winning and exceptional domestic and international public service advertisements The Korea Communications Commission (Chairman Lee Dong-kwan) and the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation (President Yi Paeng-man) holds the 2023 Korea Public Service Advertising Contest at the Korea Advertising Culture Center on Thursday, November 23. The Public Service Advertising Contest, which began in 2009 and marks its 15th anniversary this year, consists of a variety of events, including live online awards ceremonies on the YouTube channel of the Korea Public Service Advertisement Council, exhibitions of winning entries, special exhibitions of excellent domestic and international PSAs, and online exhibitions by theme. The contest aims to foster a public consensus and enhance awareness of diverse social issues. A total of 1,882 entries were submitted across TV, print, video, and emoticon categories, further classified into general, university, and youth divisions. The Grand Prize (Presidential Award) for the best honor went to "Critically Endangered: the Republic of Korea" (Print Division) by Han Sang-gui, Kim Min-soo, and Bang Hyo-bin. The winning team will receive a certificate and 10 million won in prize money. This work emphasizes the seriousness of the low birth rate problem by paradoxically portraying 'endangered species' not as zoo animals but as the Korean people themselves. The gold prizes (KCC Chairman's Award) were awarded to six entries in different divisions: "A Journey Around the World" (General TV Division), raising awareness of marine debris; "Unlight Touch" (University TV Division), highlighting the dangers of reckless expression on social media; "Struggling When Leaving the Earth" (Youth TV Division), emphasizing the preciousness of our Earth; "No Signal can be Seen" (General Print Division), depicting the risks of drunk driving by associating traffic lights with alcoholic beverages; "Pets are not Fashion" (University Print Division), underscoring the responsibility of pet ownership by likening it to fast fashion; and "Digital Divide in the Information Society" (Youth Print Division), expressing the severity of the digital gap across generations using the metaphor of a wall. Recipients of these awards will receive a certificate and a prize of four million won each. In addition, six silver, bronze, and participation prizes and four special awards were selected, with prizes of three million won for silver and special awards, two million won for bronze, and one million won for participation prizes. The KCC Vice Chairman Lee Sang-in said in a congratulatory speech, "Public service advertisements play an important role in forming a public consensus on and raising awareness of various social issues," and added, "The KCC will spare no support to produce and spread more public service advertisements that people can relate." This year, a special exhibition will be held at the Korea Advertising Culture Center and Dongdaemun Design Plaza so that people can enjoy the winning works of the contest and excellent PSAs at home and abroad. The exhibition is divided into five thematic areas, encompassing the winning pieces from the world's three major advertising festivals, safety halls, environmental halls, and experience halls featuring participatory programs. The online exhibition hall for PSA has also been newly organized and released at https://psa.kobaco.co.kr/site/gallery/home. ### The Korea Communications Commission |
